Electrification of Remote Regions

A project I recently researched and developed deals with the sustainable electrification of impoverished, remote, rural world areas through renewable energy technology.  It is my desire and intention to establish a nonprofit umbrella organization for this project perhaps to be called “Global Green Energy” or “GreenEnergy4ALL”.

On this page I am first presenting a brief “elevator speech” and for those who are interested to know more I am following up with a more detailed concept draft.

A group of supporters and I wish to found an international, charitable 501©3 organization whose mission is to support those projects that are bringing simple, inexpensive, yet highly effective renewable energy technology solutions to some of the disadvantaged 1.5 billion people who are living entirely without electricity (about every 4th or 5th world citizen).  One of my fields of study, world regional geography, claims that economic development is not possible without power.

We plan to set up the proposed nonprofit as an umbrella organization in a similar way in which industry organizations serve their corporate members or professional associations their scientists or engineers.  Its members will grow into an international community of people who will be supporting and complementing each other.

Through donations from the growing alternate energy sector we plan to provide these groups with additional funds to continue and expand their valuable work.  Using my expertise in geography I also intend to “systematize” the electrification efforts:  By searching for and identifying some of the many rural pockets that have not yet been served, I will be accelerating the development of regenerative power in the remote, impoverished areas of the world.  A partnership with Google has been proposed for the global mapping of the provision of renewable energy to the disadvantaged.

Through my preparatory activities I was able to contact and interest more than a dozen US and German scientists, engineers, and other professionals who offered to assist my venture (by serving on the Board/Adv. Board, etc.) once the 501©3 will have been established.  A confidential listing of these individuals is available for review.  Neville Williams - solar pioneer, advocate, successful serial entrepreneur for 30+ years, and author of the book “CHASING THE SUN: Solar Adventures around the World” - is greatly in favor of my proposed venture and offered to serve on the Advisory Board.

During my research I identified a significant group of social entrepreneurs in solar technology alone who are bringing simple panels, battery recharge devices, etc., to rural areas that have no electricity.  I have put together a preliminary compilation of these groups, contacted several of them, and found them to be very supportive of my mission.

We are ready to go and my next step is to identify a benefactor or philanthropist who shares my vision of accelerating the electrification of remote areas, becomes a cofounder and/or is willing to fund:

The establishment of a 501©3 in the US and Germany
  • My position with the organization - the initial research has been made available through private funds and financial contributions from family and friends
  • The operational expenses to build the membership and to contact the renewable energy industry in the US and Germany for fundraising and collaboration.
